What If the Small Moments Aren’t So Small?

Hi, I’m glad you’ve joined me here.

Because while we often talk about strategy, performance, inspections and retention… we don’t always talk about the moment someone quietly wonders if they still belong.

Or the moment a tired staff member opens an email and feels like they have been forgotten.

Or the moment when members of your boarding team go quiet and start to slowly phase out.

Or the small, unseen interactions that either build trust—or quietly chip away at it.

Or the moment where family life changes due to the demands of our boarding world.

In boarding school life, moments don’t come in neat packages. They come at 11:37pm on duty. They come in the corridor between being on duty, personal moments and an unannounced fire alarm!  They come when winning that house competition (enough said!). They come in glances, silences, feelings about the boarding world or in the last five minutes of a one-to-one.

And they matter. They are often the make or break of how someone experiences working in your community. And yet… these are the very things that often get missed in the busyness of everything else.

What do I do?

Boarding, Meet Life.

I work in the space between the moments as an independent guide by your side.

That is where the real stuff happens.

The moment where people can be honest, as they are not on show 24/7 in the boarding world.

The quick conversation that sets a new staff member at ease. The quiet check-in that may stop a resignation letter being typed.

I support schools with these moments in your employee lifecycle. Making space for them, and respond in ways that strengthen culture, connection and trust.

This isn’t just people management work — it’s human experience work.

Why it matters

People rarely leave boarding because of one big thing. They leave because of lots of little ones. It could be to a new job or to leave the boarding world. People thrive because they feel something. Heard. Grounded. Supported. Clear about what comes next.

That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when someone takes the time to care – when someone provides independent support, a listening ear, and a curious, outside lens.

Why me?

I am not from the corporate world. I am an international boarding practitioner who has experienced all areas – from startups to the redundancy call. I get the weird hours, the blurred lines, the biscuits-for-dinner nights.

I have run a full day on diet coke and chocolate… because things happen when you try and grab a meal!  (If you know, you know).

I’ve seen what helps—and what quietly burns people out.

I bring lived experience, independent thinking and a specialist toolkit. With a big belief that staff deserve just as much care as students.

And that’s what Exeat Together is about.

I create space to reflect, to breathe, to grow—and yes, to support you in the days where you say, ‘you could not make this up!’

Let’s invest in the moments that matter together in a space that works for you.

Consultancy

A Bespoke Moment of Support

Sometimes, the most meaningful gesture we can offer our staff is space — to be seen, heard, and held. As leaders, we recognise the emotional labour woven into the fabric of boarding life. This bespoke moment is an invitation to pause. To reflect. To receive the same care so often given to others.

Through my consultancy service, together we create a purposeful space for staff — grounded in listening, tailored to need, and offered with intention.
